Good afternoon and welcome to the Wimbledon Live Text Commentary of Jil Teichmann of Switzerland and Lucia Bronzetti of Italy, this is a first round encounter and our players have just arrived.

I think Jil won the toss and said receive but it’s rather noisy on the court next door – must be a Brit playing!

As always the term ‘proper handed’ means ‘left’ and refers to Teichmann. These two have only met once before, two years ago Ningbo on Hard. Bronzetti won that in two close sets.

Looks like Jil is serving sorry. Let’s go!

0-1 Cagey double fault kicks us off followed by a Bronzetti error but she does damage with the cross court forehand in the next point, Teichmann levels with an Ace but a few more errors follow and it’s first blood to the Italian!

1-2 Teichmann gets her foot in the door early charging in for a tidy volley winner at the net. Neither player has settled into a rhythm, toes are being dipped in as they try and bring in a little slice to the rallies and Bronzetti consolidates in a rather untidy error dominated game. Bronzetti comes forward for a pumping forehand winner at the net to start strong in Teichmann’s service game. Bronzetti manufactures a break point chance and dictates play with her attacking forehand yet a Teichmann backhand up the line saves it taking her to deuce. She gets to a third deuce and reaches game point with a volley winner at the net. A long rally follows yet Bronzetti eventually goes long and Teichmann avoids the double dunk before the first sit down!

2-3 The tennis is starting to look better now, a long varied rally opens game 4 ending with a Teichmann error but a lob winner in the next point takes us to 15-15. Strong serving from Bronzetti gets her through, she seals the game with a blistering forehand winner up the line. The Italian definitely looking the better player but Teichmann is showing much more consistency now than the early games. If she can keep it to one break this set is still available. Another lovely net volley takes her to 40-0 and she slams the door with an Ace. A hold to love and the Swiss player is at the party!

3-4 Bronzetti is continuing to dominate with her attacking forehands pushing the proper hander all over the court. Bronzetti still relatively untroubled on serve as she holds to 30. Teichmann perhaps starting to rue the early break as she again holds to love. She is serving great now but running out of Bronzetti service games to attack.

4-5 Teichmann finally gets a look at a break point in the next game, she gets in front with a drive volley at the net and a Bronzetti double fault, a forehand error takes it to deuce, a lung busting long rally follows where Teichmann just goes a fraction long and as she is forced into another error on the next point Lucia retains her lead. Teichmann holds again to 15. Still getting forward as much as possible and tidying up at the net and she ends the game with another clean volley winner. One last chance at the Bronzetti serve!

4-6 Teichmann cannot hide her frustration as she ovepresses with the forehand to give Bronzetti the first point, however Bronzetti returns the favour in the next point and goes long of the baseline. Teichmann pushes her into the far deuce corner, opening up the court which she hits a forehand winner into. Then Bronzetti also gets a look at an open court but gets tight and hits her forehand long. Two break points for the Swiss! Yet a couple of unforced errors see us at deuce again. Teichmann is hitting those forehands hard now, she thinks she has missed one cross court but there’s no call she quickly readjusts and hits another for break point. Another long rally more big forehands from Jil but another error. We are soon at Bronzetti’s set point. She hits a big serve which Teichmann cannot get back in the court. In the end it was that one break which did the damage!

4-6 1-0 Teichmann to kick off set two who will be happy with her serving ever since the early break. Another confident hold to love and she will fancy her chances in set two if she can hold this rhythm.

4-6 2-1 Bronzetti holds at the loss of one point and even though it’s very early days you would not bet against a tiebreak in this set. Another hold to love from Teichmann, how settled do these two look now?

4-6 3-2 There is polite subdued applause from the crowd as these two continue to roll effortlessly through their service games, if it was a game of football you might say it needs a goal. Both very in control of their own deals, the points are quick and mostly untroubled. Jil still trying to get in for the occasional flamboyant serve volley. A missed drop shot from Teichmann opens a door for Bronzetti and an unforced error follows to keep her interested but Teichmann holds to 30 and the trend continues.

4-6 4-3 It really has been that one break in the first set separating these two! Both very in control of their games, coughing up the occasional error here and there but playing safe and relatively conservative. Still we go on to 3-3. Bronzetti goes on the the offensive and gets the first point of Teichmann’s service game. A long rally follows, Bronzetti using lots of slice but it’s Teichmann’s point. However she threatens again to go 15-30, Teichmann levels the game at 30-30. She then escapes with a gorgeous drop shot volley winner combo. Still we go on, but that is the closest either player has got in set two.

4-6 4-5 Bronzetti holds to love for 4-4 as we get closer to a tiebreak but Bronzetti definitely looks more likely to tip the apple cart before then if either can. Just a few more forehand errors are creeping into Teichmann’s game, she’s looking vulnerable Bronzetti is ready to pounce. Jil still using the forehand to control the rally and get forward but a backhand error sees the first break point of the set. Bronzetti takes it with a drive forehand winner at the net. The way she is serving that could be enough but will nerves play a part?

4-6 5-6 Hello, now Jil is quickly up 0-30. Has this tale another twist? Again getting forward and another volley winner sees two break points for Teichmann, they are like London buses in set two. A Teichmann error for the first but a Bronzetti error for the second and just like that we are back on serve! It’s incredible what tennis does to the mind both players were rock solid on serve throughout most of this match but as set two moves closer to the conclusion more break points for Bronzetti. A rally is disrupted by a net cord which ultimately favours Teichmann who can use the change of pace to hit a drive winner at the net but there’s another unforced error in the next point! Bronzetti breaks again and will again serve for the match!

4-6 5-7 A long rally to kick off with, ending in a Teichmann error. Bronzetti quickly goes 40-0 up. Teichmann saves the first match point but not a second and Lucia Bronzetti is through to the next round, remarkably it’s exactly the same score as their only other match!
